Leading Experts Unify to Set Vision, Define Industry Standards, and Establish Credentials for a Resilient Space Economy

Colorado Springs, CO – The Space Workforce Institute (SWI) is excited to announce the formation of its Executive Advisory Committee, a distinguished group of leaders from the space, learning, and credentialing industries. The committee will inform the vision for the institute and identify the critical industry standards and professional credentials needed to build a resilient workforce for the growing global space economy.

As the space industry continues to expand, there is an increasing demand for a highly skilled and adaptable workforce. The Space Workforce Institute is committed to releasing a wide variety of certificate and certification programs designed to create new pathways into the space industry, enable employers to develop their workforces, help training providers and academic institutions align with industry standards, and support individuals in advancing their careers—regardless of where they are on their professional journey.

“The value of valid, reliable credentials cannot be overstated,” said Bill West, Executive Director of the Space Workforce Institute. “Each credential we release is built by subject matter experts to align with workforce standards established by the space industry. These credentials offer individuals recognition of their expertise, validate their competencies, and help employers identify and develop talent. Credential holders will receive certificates that they can proudly display to showcase their achievements and advance in their careers.”

The Executive Advisory Committee is comprised of influential professionals who bring expertise from across the space, learning, and credentialing sectors:

  • Greg Autry, Associate Provost for Space Commercialization and Strategy, University of Central Florida
  • Terry Erdle, ARDI Board Member, Investory & Advisor
  • Sierra Hampton-Simmons, Vice President, Certification & Product Architecture, Project Management Institute
  • Diane Howard, Former Director, Commercial Space Policy at the National Space Council
  • Doug Loverro, President, Loverro Consulting and former Deputy Secretary Assistant SecDef for Space Policy
  • Casey Marks, Chief Qualifications Officer, ISC2
  • George Pullen, Chief Economist, MilkyWayEconomy
  • Gabriela Welch, Executive Vice President of Products and Services, Association of Supply Chain Management (ASCM)

‘“One of the top issues I see as we plot our course to a future in space is making sure we have the right folks, with the right background, education, and training to do the job. That’s what SWI is all about and I could not be more enthusiastic about the potential” said Doug Loverro, President, Loverro Consulting.

The Space Workforce Institute’s focus remains on offering a variety of assessment-based certificates and professional credentials that are recognized across the space sector. These credentials are designed not only to support new professionals entering the industry but also to help those already working in space-related fields to stay competitive and grow within their careers.
